The Kremlin has killed Freedom of Speech

October 8, 2006 the outspoken anti-Putin journalist Anna Politkovskaya was murdered in the lift of her apartment building. She was killed with three bullets to the body and one to the head.

Today many of her supporters gathered for a demonstration at Pushinskaya Square in Moscow. I admired her courage in speaking out about certain government actions she felt were wrong, particularly the situation in Chechnya.

Few people expect the murderer to be found given the fact that many other recent 'contract killings' in Russia of high profile figures have gone unsolved.
